Hi Brian,
Sorry that its been a while since I dropped you a line, but I am an avid reader of your blog, and its good to know that your getting along well,Ive found a couple of sites on Facebook, both for ex siggies, one is called RSA and the other is 254 Signal Sqn UNFICYP,both seem good sites and are freebies as they are run by ex siggies such as your good self,I was browsing the official RSA and came upon a recent RIP,I see that he seems to be the same one that is registered on this site to,T.Alderson 75-86,tried sending mail to get his details on here but no joy..will try again later, keep up the good workDave P

Hi Brian, of course we read your 'blog', and I know from the number of 'e' mails I had when you were in the hospital that every one has you in their thoughts .. Soldier on buddy ..
My daily routine, get up shave, shower, dress, take the dog out, fire up the computer, check my 'e' mails, visit the site, check Comcen, read your blog, then off to BAOR site (another good one), then read the hatches, matches and despatches in the Southern Daily Echo on line, Then breakfast .... humdrum life ain't it ..

Those shoots you see are the main plant. The spud is the root as it were. Do not trim the green growth now showing, they will supply light and nourishment to the tuber, which will be in the banked up earth. Growing period is around 90 days, although you can pull 'em earlier if you want small spuds. They are ready for harvesting when the flowers drop, and/or the leaves change colour. Before harvesting, cut the stems off about 4-6 inches AGL, and let them stay in the earth to harden off for a cuppla days. Pull 'em, and leave to dry naturally on the bed if the weather permits.Potatoes are plants of habit, so if water supply is intermittent or in short supply, water at the same time everyday, preferably a.m. Every 2 or three days, put liquid manure at the base of each plant. If the tubers start coming out of the earth, just put more earth on 'em. It works.Stake the plants if they start drooping through heavy foliage.Plenty of butter on mine please.

Brian, regarding your op etc; I was sent some information on the benefits of asparagus, but can't give you the website, 'cos it wasn't included. You now have my e mail add. If you can give me yours I'll send it on to you, it's somewhat lengthy. If you know of the benefits then fair enough, don't bother, but I thought it may help. Phil
